The Clark Art Institute seeks an organized and energetic individual to gain valuable experience and assist with the daily operations of both the Publications Department and the Research and Academic Program. The position is full-time for one year with a possible one-year renewal.
Duties for the Publications Department include licensing of images for publications (catalogues, exhibition graphics, brochures, etc.); managing departmental web pages; performing light editorial duties; processing contracts and payments; liaising between Publications and the Research and Academic Program, especially for books in the Clark Studies in the Visual Arts series; and performing other office duties as needed. Duties may expand to include developing production schedules; assisting with the developmental, substantive, and/or mechanical editing of texts; participating in design discussions; managing the production of publications; and/or serving on institute-wide committees.
Duties for the Research and Academic Program include performing simple IT setup and assistance for RAP events; preparing materials and coordinating logistics for RAP events; maintaining departmental web pages; and assisting with mailings, scanning, and research as well as other office duties as needed.
A bachelor’s degree in a related field is required, and any related work experience is beneficial. This position requires effective communication and organizational skills, including: clear writing, astute listening, collegial interpersonal correspondence, and keeping track of multiple, fast-paced projects. Interests in museum publishing, art history (specifically the collecting areas of the Clark), and research initiatives are helpful.
