"Berkshire Impressions" Photo Contest Reception to Be Held December 7
For Immediate Release
November 21, 2001
The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute will host an opening reception for the photography contest "Berkshire Impressions" on Friday, December 7, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Members of the public are invited to attend along with the participating photographers, their families, and friends. The Clark received more than 300 entries for the contest, which is co-sponsored with the Berkshire Visitors Bureau. About 75 of the entries were in the youth category from photographers aged 18 and under. All photographs submitted will be on view at the Clark from December 7 through January 6. Prizes will be awarded at the reception. Admission is free.
The contest is sponsored in part by Berkshire Broadcasting, iBerkshires.com, and The Advocate newspapers. Prizes have been donated by Cranwell Resort and Golf Club, the Library at Wheatleigh, Berkshire Community College, the Williams Inn, Oldcastle Theatre, Images Cinema, MASS MoCA, Hancock Shaker Village, the Berkshire Museum, and the Norman Rockwell Museum.
The amateur photography contest was inspired by the Clark's current exhibition, Stockbridge Portfolio: Photographs by George Henry Seeley. A lifelong Stockbridge resident, Seeley was an important figure in the American pictorialist movement in photography. The photographs in the Clark exhibition were taken in and around Stockbridge circa 1917. Photographers participating in the contest were asked to capture their views of the Berkshires today.
The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is free through May. For more information call 413-458-2303 or visit www.clarkart.edu.
