The Sweetback Sisters to Perform Free Outdoor Concert at the Clark

For Immediate Release

July 05, 2011

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA—The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute’s lineup of outdoor summer band concerts continues on Tuesday, July 12 at 6:00 pm with the rollicking Brooklyn honky-tonk band The Sweetback Sisters. Bring your family and friends, a picnic basket, and a blanket for this free concert sponsored by Williamstown Savings Bank. Barbecue fare will be available for purchase and the galleries will remain open until 6:00 pm. In the event of rain, the concert will be held in the auditorium.

The Sweetback Sisters' charm and signature matching dresses evoke the golden era of the cowgirl. They combine their passion for classic country music with new interpretations of country music traditions to create a fresh take on what it means to be country. "If you think the concepts of hipster Brooklynites and the classic country music are mutually exclusive,” says The Boston Globe, “allow us to introduce you to this swinging sextet. Fronted by the closely harmonizing duo of Zara Bode and Emily Miller, the zingy group is simultaneously reverent of tradition and contemporaneously cheeky.”

The Clark is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm (daily in July and August). Admission is $15 June 1 through October 31. Admission is free for children 18 and younger, members, and students with valid ID. Admission is free November through May. For more information, call 413 458 2303 or visit clarkart.edu.
