The “Radiant” Borealis String Quartet to Perform Concert at the Clark

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA—The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute’s chamber music series begins with the acclaimed Borealis String Quartet on Tuesday, August 2 at 8:00 pm. At the vanguard of exciting quartets of their generation, the Borealis String Quartet has created a sensation with their dynamic performances, passionate style, and refined musical interpretations. Founded in Vancouver, British Columbia, in 2000, the Borealis String Quartet has performed to enthusiastic sold-out audiences in major North American cities, including New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Montreal, Ottawa, and their hometown of Vancouver; they have also toured extensively in Asia. The Quartet’s recent performances on the Beethoven Series at the Metropolitan Museum in New York and at the Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall in Seattle were critically lauded for their serious and dramatically engaging interpretations. The Borealis has served as String-Quartet-in-Residence at the University of British Columbia for the past 10 years. They have also been the Quartet-in-Residence at the June Music Festival in Albuquerque, New Mexico; the Magic City Chamber Music Festival in Birmingham, Alabama; and the Winter Chamber Music Festival in Tucson, Arizona. The Borealis is frequently heard on CBC Radio and other radio stations across North America and Asia. For their concert at the Clark, the Borealis String Quartet will perform Haydn’s Quartet in G Major, Opus 76, No. 1; the premiere performance of local composer Stephen Dankner’s Quartet No. 12; and Grieg’s Quartet in G Minor, Opus 27.

The chamber music series continues with one of today's most exciting young chamber ensembles, Trio con Brio Copenhagen, who will perform on August 9; the celebrated young musicians of The Caramoor Virtuosi will perform on August 16; one of the world’s most esteemed chamber ensembles the St. Petersburg String Quartet will perform with special guest Gilbert Kalish on piano on August 23; and young rising artists Kristin Lee and Alexandre Moutouzkine will conclude the series on August 30. The Clark’s soaring acoustics and intimate auditorium offers one of the best performance venues in the region; the galleries will remain open until 6:00 pm. The Clark is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm (daily in July and August).
