The “Honored, Prized, and Admired” St. Petersburg Quartet to Perform at the Clark with Special Guest Gilbert Kalish

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA—The celebrated chamber ensemble the St. Petersburg Quartet will perform with special guest pianist Gilbert Kalish at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute on Tuesday, August 23 at 8:00 pm. The St. Petersburg Quartet is one of the world's most esteemed chamber ensembles. Their rise to fame has included a Grammy nomination, "Best Record" honors in both Stereo Review and Gramophone, an opening night performance at Mostly Mozart at Lincoln Center, a five-year residency at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, and hundreds of concerts on many of North America, Europe, and Asia's most prestigious series and festivals. “Honored, prized and admired…the St. Petersburg String Quartet continues to extend its influence…an ensemble of special accomplishment; their performances have authority, style, and breadth. Guest artist Gilbert Kalish leads a musical life of unusual variety and scope. His profound influence on the musical community as educator and as pianist in myriad performances and recordings has established him as a major figure in American music making.

The program will feature Beethoven's String Quartet, Opus 18, No. 5 in A Major; Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 8 in C Minor, Opus 110; and Dvorák's Piano Quintet No. 2 in A Major, Opus 81.

The Clark’s chamber music series concludes with young rising artists Kristin Lee and Alexandre Moutouzkine on August 30. Tickets for the St. Petersburg String Quartet are $25 ($20 members and students with ID). Tickets for Kristin Lee and Alexandre Moutouzkine are $17 ($12 for members and students with ID). The Clark’s soaring acoustics and intimate auditorium offers one of the best performance venues in the region; the galleries will remain open until 6:00 pm. The Clark is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm (daily in July and August).
