September 01, 2011

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA—Three eclectic, electrifying plays from London’s National Theatre are coming to the Clark live in HD this fall! The London’s National Theatre: Live in HD series begins with celebrated director Nicholas Hytner’s “howlingly funny” (The Independent) smash-hit production One Man, Two Guvnors on Thursday, September 15 at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $25 ($23 members and students) and may be purchased online at clarkart.edu or by calling 413 458 0524.

James Corden, whose performance as Francis Henshall has been relished by critics and audiences alike, leads the cast of Richard Bean’s play, based on The Servant of Two Masters by Carlo Goldoni, with songs by Grant Olding. Fired from his skiffle band, Francis Henshall becomes minder to Roscoe Crabbe, a small time East End hood, now in Brighton to collect £6,000 from his fiancée’s father. But Roscoe is really his sister Rachel posing as her own dead brother, who’s been killed by her boyfriend Stanley Stubbers. Holed up at The Cricketers’ Arms, the permanently ravenous Francis spots the chance of an extra meal ticket and takes a second job with one Stanley Stubbers, who is hiding from the police and waiting to be reunited with Rachel. To prevent discovery, Francis must keep his two guvnors apart. Simple. Don’t miss the production Daily Telegraph calls “the feel good hit of the summer. An evening of riotous delight.”

London’s National Theatre: Live in HD series continues with an encore performance of One Man, Two Guvnors on Friday, September 23 at 7:30 pm, followed by The Kitchen on October 6 (encore performance October 14), and Collaborators on December 1 (encore performance December 9). The Clark’s soaring acoustics and intimate auditorium offers one of the best performance venues in the region. Tickets are $25 ($23 members and students) and may be purchased online at clarkart.edu or by calling 413 458 0524.
