Manet's Pastel Mèry Laurent Wearing A Small Toque the Focus of the Clark's February 9 Looking at Lunchtime Talk
For Immediate Release
January 23, 2006
The next Looking at Lunchtime Gallery Talk at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute will be held Thursday, February 9 at 12:30 pm. Michael Cassin, the Clark’s curator of education, will discuss Mèry Laurent Wearing a Small Toque by Edouard Manet during a half hour gallery talk. The talk and gallery admission are free.
The subject of this month’s talk, Mèry Laurent Wearing a Small Toque, is one of the highlights of the Clark's collection of pastels. The sitter looks at viewers with a hint of a Mona Lisa smile, which makes the image a delightful combination of intimacy and vivacity.
The Looking at Lunchtime series is held the second Thursday of every month featuring a curator or special guest highlighting a work of art or collection at the Clark. Attendees are welcomed to purchase food from the courtyard cafe or bring a bag lunch.
The Clark is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm (daily in July and August.) Admission is free November through May. Admission June 1 through October 31 is $10 for adults, free for children 18 and under, members, and students with valid ID.
