Jess Klein's Exhilarating Mix of Soul and Rock To Kick Off Winter Music Series at the Clark February 25

For Immediate Release

February 06, 2006

The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute’s winter concert series “From Woodstock to Somewhere Near There…” kicks off in rockin’ style with Jess Klein on Saturday, February 25. Klein will shake up the Clark’s auditorium with an exhilarating mix of soul and rock.  Tickets for this performance are $18 ($12 for members and students).  To order tickets for any concerts in this series, call the Clark’s box office at 413-458-0524.  Concerts begin at 8 pm.

In Klein’s sophomore release on Rykodisc, Strawberry Lover, the singer-songwriter drew inspiration from both the outlook and the music of her childhood. "Much of the album is about trying to remain young at heart," Klein says, "and keeping your heart open when you become an adult and see some things you didn't expect to: Heartache, loss, grief, anger."

The Boston Herald described Klein’s sounds as “Folk gets sexy. Ex-Bostonian Jess Klein's Strawberry Lover, the title track of her third CD, was named one of the 10 sexiest songs of the moment by the New York Daily News. . . that Klein was placed alongside Destiny's Child and 50 Cent on the list makes the hype more astounding, but doesn't detract from the lass' lovely folk-pop.”

Prior to her last release, the critically acclaimed Draw Them Near, Klein recorded three independent albums and toured the US, UK and Japan with 10,000 Maniacs, Jill Sobule, and Luka Bloom.  More recently, she was seen and heard with Erin McKeown and Rose Polenzani as part of the quartet Voices on the Verge, and contributed to the Peter Malick Project featuring Norah Jones.

“From Woodstock to Somewhere Near There…” celebrates the diverse sounds of nearby Boston, Woodstock, and the Hudson Valley. The series continues with the ageless folk tunes of Richie Havens on Saturday, March 18, and closes with the whimsical blend of folk, rock, hillbilly and pop of Gandalf Murphy and The Slambovian Circus of Dreams on Saturday, April 1.

The Clark is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts.  The galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm (daily in July and August).  Admission is free November through May.  Admission June 1 through October 31 is $10 for adults, free for children 18 and younger, members, and students with valid ID.  For more information, call 413-458-2303 or visit
