A Taste of Chocolate at the Clark October 29

Sumptuous delights featuring Toblerone chocolate, prepared by local celebrity chefs, will make the “Chocolate Challenge” at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute a mouthwatering cocoa extravaganza. Two winning entries will be chosen on Sunday, October 29 between 4:30 to 5:30 pm. A public taste test will determine one of the two winners and local food critics and editors will select the other winner of the chocolate cook-off. The contest is one of several events held in conjunction with the current special exhibition, Alpine Views: Alexandre Calame and the Swiss Landscape which is sponsored by Toblerone. Admission to the “Chocolate Challenge” is free and space is limited.
Local eateries stepping up to the challenge will be Hobson's Choice, Tunnel City Coffee, Café Latino, Mezze Bistro and Bar, Castle Street Café, and Jae's at the Clark. Swiss chocolate maker Toblerone is providing over 90 pounds of milk, dark, and white Swiss chocolate to the chefs for this event. Hoping to win over people’s taste buds, chefs will bring their most delectable entries to the “Chocolate Challenge” for the public and judges to taste.
Two winners will be announced. Food critics and editors Amanda Rae Busch of Berkshire Living, Deanne Moskowitz of The Berkshire Eagle, and Jim Lambert, chef at the Berkshire Community College Culinary School, will judge the savory fare and pick one of the winners. A popular ballot, hence the tastings, will determine the other winner, the public’s favorite.
This “Chocolate Challenge” will whet your appetite for all things Swiss. At 2 pm, prior to the chocolate tasting, catch a free showing of the 1975 action thriller The Eiger Sanction (123 minutes, rated R), staring Clint Eastwood as an art history professor/international assassin sent to the Alps in search of a Russian killer. Admission to the film is free.
“The staff at the Clark looks forward to seeing, and especially tasting, how the various chefs put Toblerone chocolate to use in the recipes,” said Michael Conforti, director of the Clark. “These local chef are extremely talented and should submit some wonderfully diverse and delicious entries.”
