For Immediate Release
January 24, 2007
The rich and evocative sounds of Irish and Cajun music will heat up the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute this March with performances by Boys of the Lough on Saturday, March 3 and BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet on Saturday, March 24. Both concerts are held at 8 pm in the Clark’s auditorium. Tickets per concert are $24 ($20 for members) and may be reserved by calling 413-458-0524 or purchased at the museum shop.
The Boys of the Lough have established a reputation for recognized technical brilliance and integrity in their performance of Irish and Scottish music. As the first of the full time Celtic bands to arise on the international scene, they have completed over 60 tours of the United States and their performances and recordings are spread over five decades. Recently, in December 2006, the Boys of the Lough performed on National Public Radio’s “Prairie Home Companion.” Enormously popular and well-respected, The Boston Globe called them “…musically splendid…legends.” On Saturday, March 3 at the Clark, experience their ready wit and sense of fun.
They’ve been called “The World’s Greatest Cajun Band” by Garrison Keillor of “Prairie Home Companion.” BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet take the rich Cajun traditions of Louisiana and artfully blend elements of zydeco, New Orleans jazz, Tex-Mex, country, blues and more into a satisfying musical recipe. From The Grand Ole Opry to Newport Folk, from concert hall to dance floor, the music of BeauSoleil is sure to captivate those in the audience on Saturday, March 24.
The Clark is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, MA. The galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm (daily in July and August). Admission is free November through May. Admission June 1 through October 31 is $12.50 for adults, free for children 18 and under, members, and students with valid ID. For more information, call 413-458-2303 or visit www.clarkart.edu.
