Escape to the South Seas During Island Inspired Clark After Dark Event on March 30

For Immediate Release

March 07, 2007

Limbo your way through tiki poles into the balmy breezes of Tahiti and say good-bye to the Berkshire winter during Clark After Dark: South Seas Spring Fling on Friday, March 30 at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute. This funky and fun event, concluding the popular Clark After Dark series, will be held from 8 pm to midnight, and includes music provided by DJ Peter Hallisey of Sound Choice in Boston, late-night encounters with art, light fare, a cash bar, and out-of-the-ordinary activities. Tickets are $10 ($8 for members) per evening, available at the door.

What would a night in paradise be without a limbo contest? Grab your grass skirts and Hawaiian shirts, we’ll provide the shells. All the materials will be provided to create your own wearable shell creations to don during the evening and whenever island fever strikes you. Awards will be given for the top three who can limbo the lowest.

Every half hour from 8:30 to 11 pm, exclusive tours of the Clark’s print room will reveal seldom seen works on paper by Paul Gauguin inspired by the South Seas.  And don’t forget to plan a late-night rendezvous in the Clark’s permanent collection, open until midnight.

This Polynesian party features tropical delights from Mai Tais and piña coladas along with wine, beer, and espresso. Soft drinks and sparkling water will be available at no charge. Free island edibles from chicken satays and sautéed vegetable dumplings to pad thai and fried nobles with sweet sauce will delight the senses. Sumptuous desserts to temp the palate include chocolate dipped mango and piña colada sorbet.

The series is sponsored by Jae's Inn and Restaurant in Williamstown and Jae's Inn and Spa in North Adams.

The Clark is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, MA. The galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm (daily in July and August). Admission is free November through May. Admission June 1 through October 31 is $12.50 for adults, free for children 18 and under, members, and students with valid ID. For more information, call 413-458-2303 or visit
