Girl Howdy Brings the Sounds of Classic Honky-Tonk to the Clark on July 17 During Free Outdoor Concert

For Immediate Release

July 06, 2007

Acclaimed musical act Girl Howdy will play music inspired from the classic honky-tonk era spanning the late 1940s to the early 1960s on Tuesday, July 17 at 6 pm at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute. Gather family and friends, picnics, blankets, and lawn chairs and head to the Clark’s expansive south lawn to enjoy the free summer outdoor concert series, held on Tuesday evenings at 6 pm in July. The galleries remain open until 6 pm on concert evenings. In the event of rain, the concerts will be held in the auditorium.

Drawing on their combined rich and varied repertoires, Girl Howdy delivers songs from such legends as Hank Williams, Kitty Wells, Webb Pierce, the Davis Sisters and George Jones, as well as from bluegrass giants the Stanley Brothers and Bill Monroe. Girl Howdy, whose lineup includes Paula Bradley on piano, Emma O'Donnell on fiddle, Rose Sinclair on steel guitar, and Betsy-Dawn (BeeDee) Williams on acoustic rhythm guitar, with a rotating cast of top musicians on drums and upright bass, play an infectious honky-tonk groove that has made the band a favorite at festivals, concerts and dances throughout the Northeast since 2001.

"...sweet harmonies, sliding steel and sawing fiddle define Girl Howdy's genuine jukebox sound. With a few exceptions, males dominated the post-war Honky Tonk scene. But in the 21st century, Girl Howdy rules..." wrote the Hudson Valley (NY) Bluegrass Association Jamboree.

On band concert evenings, barbeque fare will be available for purchase. Enjoy hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, chips, ice cream, and strawberry shortcake.

Upcoming concerts include The Flown Home Band on July 24 and the Curley Headed Rascals on July 31. Williamstown Savings Bank is the media sponsor of the concerts.

The Clark is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, MA. The galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm (daily in July and August). Admission June 1 through October 31 is $12.50 for adults, free for children 18 and under, members, and students with valid ID. Admission is free November through May.
