Kick Back at Clark After Dark: The Roaring ’20s on March 28

For Immediate Release

March 14, 2008

Jazz, speakeasies, and flappers are the bee’s knees at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute during Clark After Dark: The Roaring ’20s on Friday, March 28. Held from 8 pm to midnight, admission is $10 ($8 per member), and you must be 21+ to attend. Start the evening early with a screening of The Cotton Club, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, at 5:45 pm.

The big band is warming up, so don those flapper dresses, dust off the fedoras, smooth that bob, and freshen your lipstick. Learn the Lindy Hop and other ’20s moves and then dance the night away to the sounds of the Steve Murray Band. This eight-piece band is well-known in the Berkshires and beyond since its beginnings in the Old Stockbridge Inn.

Get hot on the dance floor then hop on over to the Prohibition Pub, the Clark’s own juice joint. Kick back and try your hand at poker, blackjack, or checkers. Channel your inner flapper by designing or creating a headband or dress up your get up and decorate a fedora. Get refreshed with champagne punch, Havana Mojitos, and Pink Murders. Snack on Monte Cristo sandwiches, roast beef roulades with horseradish sauce, celery sticks with pimento cream cheese, apple cups with Waldorf salad, and more. Complimentary soft drinks will be available.

Take an exclusive look at 1920s photographs of New York City and Paris on display in the print room. Sign up early in the evening as there are a limited number of tickets available for this curator-led peek into the Clark’s copacetic collection of works on paper.

The Clark is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm (daily in July and August). Admission is free November through May. Admission June 1 through October 31 is $12.50 for adults, free for children 18 and younger, members, and students with valid ID.
