Honoring the milestone of fifty years, with an eye on the future, the first-ever Clark Prize for Excellence in Art Writing will be awarded in the spring of 2006. The annual award, open to writers of all genres, furthers the Clark's mission of enhancing public appreciation of art while advancing scholarship. The award recognizes writers who foster the understanding of art but in such a manner that is comprehensible and beneficial to readers of all levels of art knowledge. An independent committee of writers, scholars, editors, and/or artists will serve as nominators and judges. A $10,000 honorarium and an award designed by the world-famous architect Tadao Ando will be presented to the writer best stimulating the advancement of art to a broad audience.
