International Exhibitions

A key component of ClarkNOW is the Institute’s international tour of works from its noted collection of nineteenth-century French paintings.

The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute is committed to global outreach through cultural exchange, educational programs, and exhibitions in Williamstown and throughout the world. In fulfillment of this mission, the Clark launched its first-ever international tour of masterpieces from its collection at the Palazzo Reale in Milan on March 2, 2011. The tour presents a rare opportunity to share many of the treasures of the Clark's collection with new audiences of art lovers, students, and scholars. Of equal importance, this initiative also provides a unique platform through which to showcase the distinct cultural heritage of the Berkshires to a worldwide audience.

The fourth stop on the tour will open at the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas, on March 11, 2012 and will be on view through June 17, 2012. The Age of Impressionism: Great French Paintings from the Clark continues the Clark’s commitment to global outreach and cultural exchange.

“The Clark is delighted to have this unprecedented opportunity to share some of its best-known and most beloved works with a broader global audience,” said Clark director Michael Conforti. “It is our hope that this exhibition of the best of the Clark’s famous nineteenth-century painting collection will encourage the cross-cultural exchange of new ideas and the discovery of common ground, paving the way to greater mutual understanding and cooperation through the arts.”

The three-year initiative will bring these works to leading museums and venues in Europe, North America, and Asia through 2013. For a list of venues and dates, click here.
