Lust for Life
Thursday, November 15, 2012
Kirk Douglas gives an impassioned performance as Vincent Van Gogh, with Anthony Quinn as Paul Gauguin, in Lust for Life (1956, 122 min), Vincente Minnelli’s adaptation of the Irving Stone novel, an unusually serious Hollywood biopic, imbued with the colors of the art and the life. Perspective will be provided by Richard Kendall, Curator at Large for the Clark and author of Van Gogh’s Van Goghs.
Old Masters in New Frames is a free film series that pairs feature films about famous artists with scholarly interlocutors who put the work in context, offering an introduction and/or leading a post-film discussion.
