The Clark’s campus comes to life with the sights, sounds, arts, culture, and food of Japan as we pay tribute to Stone Hill Center’s Japanese architect Tadao Ando with a free family day.

Schedule of Events

Ongoing Activities (11:00 AM – 4:00 PM)

  • Koto player on the Moltz Terrace at Stone Hill Center
  • Art-making activities, including koinobori windsocks, decoupage boxes with origami paper, ceramic tiles, painting on bamboo mats
  • Haiku workshop
  • Community art project: Help create a large Japanese screen
  • Japanese block-printing demonstration
  • Ikebana flower-arranging demonstration
  • Bonsai demonstration
  • Roving bunraku puppets by Mystic Paper Beasts

Timed Activities

  • 11:00 AM and 1:00 and 3:00 PM – Gallery talks
  • 11:30 AM and 1:00 and 2:30 PM – Sumo wrestling
  • 11:30 AM and 2:00 PM – Anime short films for kids
  • Noon and 2:00 PM – Maine Thunder Spirits Taiko Drumming and Martial Arts team demonstration
  • 12:30 and 3:00 PM – Japanese storytelling with Motoko Dworkin

Food Court (11:00 AM – 4:00 PM)
Features Spice Root (Indian buffet), the Clark (hamburgers and hot dogs, sushi, sandwiches and salads), Boston Seafood (New England meets Japan seafood boats), Hot Tomatoes (pizza), and Lickety Split (ice cream)
