Catherine Deneuve plays an umbrella shop owner's delicate daughter, glowing with first love for handsome garage mechanic, played by Nino Castelnuovo. When the boy is shipped off to fight in Algeria, the two lovers must grow up quickly. Told entirely through lilting songs by composer Michel Legrand, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg is one of the most revered and unorthodox movie musicals of all time. This movie is not rated. (Run time: 1 hour, 35 minutes).

Free. This film is shown outdoors at dusk, around 8:20 pm. For accessibility questions, call 413 458 0524. Bring a picnic and your own seating. Rain moves the showing to the auditorium, located in the Manton Research Center.
