The Clark presents a series of films highlighting the charm of small towns.

The series continues with Shadow of a Doubt (1943). Set and partially shot in Santa Rosa, California, part of the brilliant tension that propels Shadow of a Doubt comes from its small-town setting. The town is at turns a haven and a claustrophobic trap for the teenage Charlie Newton (Teresa Wright). This was also Hitchcock’s favorite of his own films. The film begins with Charlie bored out of her mind. When her worldly Uncle Charlie (Joseph Cotten), who is also her namesake, shows up, things become much more exciting—perhaps too exciting. Charlie begins to suspect her uncle of a string of widow murders. Her boring small-town world transforms into something more menacing. (Run time: 1 hour, 43 minutes)

Free. Accessible seats available; for information, call 413 458 0524.
