Marc Gotlieb

Marc Gotlieb, associate professor and chair of the department of fine art at the University of Toronto, is the author of The Plight of Emulation: Ernest Meissonier and French Salon Painting (Princeton University Press, 1996). Gotlieb’s new project, The Deaths of Henri Regnault: Art and Orientalism in the Fin-de-Siècle, will provide a comprehensive investigation of the artist’s brief career while arguing for his dual roles of outcast and conspirator within an emerging discourse of modernism.
