DORIAN WIND QUINTET AND PIANIST SPENCER MYER TO PERFORM AT THE CLARK

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA—The final concert in the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute’s 2013 chamber music series takes place on Tuesday, August 20 at 8 pm. The Dorian Wind Quintet, who will be joined by pianist Spencer Myer, will perform Reicha’s Quintet in E flat major as well as Bach’s Organ Works arranged for wind quintet.

The Dorian Wind Quintet was formed in 1961 at Tanglewood and has gained notoriety in the four decades since their founding for their musicianship and dedicated approach to their repertoire. TheNew York Times praised the quintet for their “enthusiastic, incisive performance,” and the Los Angeles Times remarked that the Dorians combine “polish with vigor.” The Dorian Quintet was also the first wind quintet to appear at Carnegie Hall in 1981.

Spencer Myer, who joins the quintet for Thuille’s Sextet in B flat major, is a rising star among classical piano players. Winner of the 2008 New Orleans International Piano Competition, Myer is equally at home in orchestral, solo, or chamber settings, and has played in many of the world’s most distinguished concert venues. The Independent (London) praised Myer as a performer who makes “the hardest things look easy…Myer is definitely a man to watch.”
