GRYPHON TRIO TO PERFORM INNOVATIVE CHAMBER MUSIC AT THE CLARK

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA—On Tuesday, August 13 at 8 pm, the Gryphon Trio will perform at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute as part of the Clark’s summer chamber music series. The Gryphon Trio is a versatile and vibrant ensemble that is able to simultaneously play the classic pieces of the chamber music repertoire while pioneering new directions for the art form, including multimedia pieces and creative adaptations of pieces outside the traditional songbook. Violinist Annalee Patipatanakoon, cellist Roman Borys, and pianist Jamie Parker will play not only classic pieces like Haydn’s Piano trio in A major Hob. XV: 18 and Ravel’s Trio in A minor, but also Two Tangos by Piazzolla, and a commissioned multimedia piece, Old Photograph by Christos Hatzis.

The trio has garnered praise from the Los Angeles Times, which said that they “play with strength and unanimity,” and praised their “big, bold, almost orchestral performances.” The trio is also well-regarded in their native Canada, where they were awarded two Juno awards (the Canadian equivalent of the Grammys) for Best Classical Album in 2004 and in 2011.

An optional three-course prix fixe meal will be served in the Clark Café before the concert, offering a selection of appetizers, entrées, and desserts. Tickets are $29 per person. Reservations are required; please call 413 458 0524.
