'FREE FUN FRIDAY' AT THE CLARK OFFERS FREE ADMISSION, FAMILY ACTIVITIES

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA—On Friday, August 23, the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute offers free admission all day, as well as a host of family activities, as part of the Highland Street Foundation’s seasonal Free Fun Fridays.

A wandering puppeteer, face painting, a movie showing, and a variety of games like giant Twister, sack races, musical chairs, lawn chess, and hula hoops are just some of the activities to be held throughout the day. Families can also build fairy houses along the Nan and Howard Paths. All activities are free of charge.

The Clark’s exhibitions, Winslow Homer: Making Art, Making History and George Inness: Gifts from Frank and Katherine Martucci, as well as Clark Remix and Clark Classic, are open to visitors. Free family guides, which are an excellent way to engage children with art, will be distributed. Lions and Tigers and Museums, Oh My!, the Kidspace exhibition at Stone Hill Center, is also open.

From 11:30 am to 2:30 pm, visitors can purchase a variety of grilled fare. The popular gourmet food truck “How We Roll,” recently featured on the Kelly and Michael Show, will sell an assortment of family-friendly dishes.

Free Fun Fridays are sponsored by the Highland Street Foundation, an organization devoted to providing children and families with access to education, housing, and the arts, among other causes. The foundation instituted the program in 2008 to enable everyone to afford Massachusetts’ wealth of cultural attractions. No registration or tickets are required to attend Free Fun Fridays.

About the Clark

Set amidst 140 acres in the Berkshires, the Clark is one of the few major art museums that also serves as a leading international center for research and scholarship. The Clark is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The galleries are open daily in July and August (open Tuesday through Sunday from September through June), 10 am to 5 pm. Admission is $15 June 1 through October 31; free November through May; and free year-round for Clark members, children 18 and younger, and students with valid ID.
