DOVER QUARTET TO PERFORM AT THE CLARK

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA—The Dover Quartet, a talented young chamber ensemble, will perform at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute on Tuesday, August 20 at 8 pm. This will be the third concert in the Clark’s annual chamber music series, which showcases some of the nation’s best chamber ensembles in the Clark’s acoustically optimized auditorium. The Dover Quartet formed at the Curtis Institute of Music in 2008, when most of its members were just nineteen years old. Even at that young age, they soon gained a reputation for a level of professionalism and musical subtlety that many more experienced ensembles struggle to capture.The Wall Street Journal recently praised the group for “distinguishing itself by playing…with a level of nuance unexpected of musicians so young.” (March 27, 2013). At the Clark, the quartet will perform three pieces: Beethoven’s Quartet in E minor, Opus 59 No. 2, Brahms’ Quartet in A minor, Opus 51 No. 2, and Stephen Dankner’s “De Profundis.” Dankner, a local composer, composed “De Profundis” in honor of Williams College Professor of Music Emeritus Irwin Shainman, who died in 2012.

Before the performance, a fixed-price dinner will be offered in the Clark Café at 6 pm. A variety of appetizers, entrées, and desserts is available for $29 per person (tax, beverage, and gratuity not included). Reservations are required; please call 413 458 0524.
