CLARK TO BROADCAST BALLET IN HD: DON QUIXOTE

For Immediate Release

January 17, 2013

Williamstown, MA—On Sunday, January 27 at 1 pm, the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute’s Ballet in HD series continues with a broadcast of Don Quixote, created by leading Russian choreographer Alexei Ratmansky exclusively for the Dutch National Ballet. Tickets are $15 ($13 for members and students). Tickets can be purchased online at clarkart.edu or by calling 413 458 0524.

Don Quixote is a dazzling display of high spirits, virtuosity, and Spanish temperament. The flamboyant leaps, dizzying pirouettes, and crisp pointe work give the performers every opportunity to show off their technical prowess. At the same time, the comic story based on Cervantes’s masterpiece makes strong demands on the dancers’ acting abilities. Ratmansky, the former artistic director of the Bolshoi Ballet and Artist in Residence of the American Ballet Theatre, drew inspiration for his production from the 1869 libretto by Marius Petipa but added his own elements and choreography.

Conducted by Kevin Rhodes, Don Quixote stars Anna Tsygankova, Matthew Golding, Peter De Jong, and Karel de Rooij. Running time is 122 minutes.
