THE CLARK'S STONE HILL CENTER CELEBRATES FIFTH ANNIVERSARY

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA—A special milestone at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute—the fifth anniversary of the opening of Stone Hill Center—will be celebrated on Saturday, July 27 from 1 to 4 pm. Admission to Stone Hill Center is free all day, and a host of children’s activities is offered. Classic summer picnic food is available for purchase, and the day culminates with free cake and ice cream served at 3:30 pm.

Puppeteer Gordon Holley of The Puppet Brigade will be on hand all afternoon with his larger-than-life puppets and interactive storytelling, and children will also have the opportunity to build a fairy house or a gnome home at craft stations set along the Nan and Howard Paths. Families are encouraged to explore the hands-on exhibition Lions and Tigers and Museums, Oh My!

Stone Hill Center opened in 2008 as part of the Clark’s extensive campus expansion program. Perched atop Stone Hill with commanding views of the Taconic Range and the Green Mountains, the building contains exhibition and studio space as well as the Williamstown Art Conservation Center. Designed by renowned Japanese architect Tadao Ando, the building is a work of art in its own right, featuring several of the architect’s signature elements, including a “seven wall”—an exterior wall shaped like the number seven. Ando also designed the Clark’s new Visitor, Exhibition, and Conference Center, which is scheduled to open in July 2014.

About the Clark

Set amidst 140 acres in the Berkshires, the Clark is one of the few major art museums that also serves as a leading international center for research and scholarship. The Clark presents public and education programs and organizes groundbreaking exhibitions that advance new scholarship. The Clark’s research and academic programs include an international fellowship program and conferences. The Clark is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The galleries are open daily in July and August (open Tuesday through Sunday from September through June), 10 am to 5 pm. Admission is $15 June 1 through October 31; free November through May; and free year-round for Clark members, children 18 and younger, and students with valid ID.
