THE CLARK TO SCREEN FILM ON THE WORK OF EDVARD MUNCH

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA—In 1893, Norwegian Edvard Munch created The Scream, a painting that would become one of the twentieth century’s most emblematic images. The Sterling and Francine Clark Institute celebrates the 150th anniversary of Munch’s birth with a screening of Munch 150, part of the series Exhibition: Great Art on Screen. Munch 150 offers a guided visit through the exhibition of the same name, which is jointly hosted by the National Museum of Norway and the Munch Museum, both located in Oslo, Norway. The audience will have an opportunity to see the largest collection of Munch’s works ever assembled, as well as a behind-the-scenes look at how the exhibit was put together. A variety of art historians, led by host Tim Marlow, comment on Munch and his legacy.

Jay Clarke, the Clark’s Manton Curator of Prints, Drawings, and Photographs, offers introductory remarks before the film and hosts a question-and-answer session afterwards.
