EXTRA! THE CLARK OPENS A SHOP ON SPRING STREET

Retail experiment brings international newspapers and art publications to Williamstown
WILLIAMSTOWN, MA—Spring Street in Williamstown will welcome a new pop-up shop on July 1 when the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute opens EXTRA!, offering national and international newspapers, art and culture magazines, and a curated selection of books, art publications, and gift items.

EXTRA!, located at 73 Spring Street, will be open daily from 8 am to 5 pm, welcoming residents and visitors to drop in for the morning’s paper, take a break in the reading room, or browse the shop’s eclectic offerings.
“We hope that EXTRA! will give our friends and neighbors a comfortable gathering spot where they can catch up on the news of the world and enjoy the chance to sample some wonderful books and magazines,” said Michael Conforti, director of the Clark. “The shop is a fun retail experiment for us and dovetails with the global reach of the Clark’s programs. We regularly welcome international scholars and visitors to the Clark, and we thought it would be great to bring a little bit of the world to Spring Street.”

Featuring a vintage vibe, EXTRA! has been planned as a temporary retail outlet for the Clark and will be open through October 2013. The shop will carry a wide array of national and international newspapers, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Le Monde, The Guardian, Corriere della Serra, and Shanghai Daily. Local papers, including The Berkshire Eagle and North Adams Transcript, will also be available daily. Art publications include Art in America, Art Forum and Cabinet and a diverse offering of titles from around the world.

About the Clark

Set amidst 140 acres in the Berkshires, the Clark is one of the few major art museums that also serves as a leading international center for research and scholarship. The Clark presents public and education programs and organizes groundbreaking exhibitions that advance new scholarship. The Clark’s research and academic programs include an international fellowship program and conferences. The Clark is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The galleries are open daily in July and August (open Tuesday through Sunday from September through June), 10 am to 5 pm. Admission is $15 June 1 through October 31; free November through May; and free year-round for Clark members, children 18 and younger, and students with valid ID.
