ACROSS THE POND BRINGS BRITISH INVASION SOUND TO THE CLARK

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA—This year marks the fortieth anniversary of the British Invasion, and to celebrate the seismic cultural shift that took place in the mid-60s, Beatles tribute act Across the Pond will perform a free concert on the lawn at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute on Tuesday, July 9 at 6 pm. The concert is part of the Clark’s summer concert series, which features live music every Tuesday night in July.

Across the Pond was formed in 2008 by Marc Clayton as a way acknowledge the Beatles’ musical legacy without engaging in a full on-tribute act—what some performers call a “suit and wig” band. Instead, Clayton, along with bandmates Joe Tucker, Tim Wozniuk, and Jonathan Newell perform the band’s music without trying to mimic every aspect of the Beatles’ performance style. This allows Across the Pond—and their audience—to focus on the songs rather than on the accuracy of the band’s costumes.

This focus on the music also allows the group to perform some songs that the Beatles never played live in concert. The Beatles stopped touring in 1966, which means that the majority of songs from their later career were never performed live. Across the Pond performs tracks from all eras of the band’s career, including later material like “With a Little Help From My Friends,” “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds,” and “Yellow Submarine.”

Picnic suppers are welcome and barbeque fare will be available for purchase. The galleries will remain open until 6 pm. In the event of rain, the concert will be held in the auditorium.

About the Clark
