THE MET: LIVE IN HD PRESENTS PRINCE IGOR AT THE CLARK

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA—Russian powerhouse Ildar Abdrazakov sings the title role in the Metropolitan Opera’s production of Alexander Borodin’s Prince Igor, broadcast live at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute on Saturday, March 1 at 12 pm. Gianandrea Noseda conducts the epic story of war, treachery, testing the ties of love, and redemption. Oksana Dyka sings the role of Yaroslavna, the wife Prince Igor must leave behind as he and his son Vladimir (Sergey Semishkur) battle the forces of the Polovtsians. Igor is eventually captured by Polovtsian chief Khan Konchak (Štefan Kocán) and is presumed dead, but he escapes captivity only to return to his beloved town of Putivl left in ruins.

Abdrazakov, “a bass of elegance and unforced resonance” (The New York Times), has quickly established himself as one of opera’s most sought-after basses. Since making his La Scala debut in 2001 at only 25, he has become a mainstay at leading houses worldwide, including New York’s Metropolitan Opera, the Vienna State Opera, and Munich’s Bavarian State Opera. The Met has not launched a production of Prince Igor since 1917, when Italian baritone Pasquale Amato sung the title role.

Approximate running time is 270 minutes. Due to limited onsite parking at the Clark, visitors should plan to arrive twenty minutes before the start of the performance.
