PRIVATE JOURNALS OF THEODORE KACZYNSKI THE SUBJECT OF FREE LECTURE AT CLARK ART INSTITUTE

Williamstown, Massachusetts—Clark Fellow Julie Ault presents, “Undoing the Past: Recuperated Document and Uncertain History” at the Clark Art Institute on Tuesday, April 5 at 5:30 pm. The free lecture will be held in Hunter Studio, located in the Lunder Center at Stone Hill on the Clark campus.

Ault will present the state of her research project, Testing the Limits: Archiving the Private Journals of Theodore J. Kaczynski. In 2011, via an online auction of Kaczynski’s personal belongings ordered by the U.S. Marshals Service, Ault obtained his journals and correspondence chronicling his life in the Montana wilderness. Ault is investigating how the papers complicate, amend, and contradict the public’s perception of the man known as the Unabomber; she is also archiving the collection.

Julie Ault is an independent researcher, artist, curator, writer, and editor who teaches on a visiting basis. She studies interrelationships between cultural production and politics, often addressing the intersection of archiving, memory, and historical representation.
