CLARK ART INSTITUTE PRESENTS FREE LECTURE “FROM NAUGHTY TO NICE” AT THE ALBANY INSTITUTE OF HISTORY AND ART

Williamstown, MA—Kathleen Morris, interim senior curator and Marx Director of Exhibitions at the Clark Art Institute, presents “From Naughty to Nice: Nudes from the Prado” on Thursday, July 21 at 6 pm. The free lecture will be held at the Albany Institute of History and Art, 125 Washington Avenue, Albany, New York (www.albanyinstitute.org).
Morris takes a look at the Clark’s summer exhibition Splendor, Myth, and Vision: Nudes from the Prado, on view at the Clark through October 10, 2016. The collecting and display of paintings of the nude have a fascinating and varied history in the Spanish royal collections—commissioned by some monarchs, sequestered in salas reservadas (private rooms) by others. Now, more than two centuries later, the nude continues to evoke powerful responses—from censorship to celebrated acceptance.
Learn the histories of magnificent paintings by Titian, Peter Paul Rubens, Guercino, and others, and hear the backstory of how the exhibition came to be.
ABOUT THE CLARK
The Clark Art Institute, located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts.
