CLARK ART INSTITUTE PARTNERS WITH IS183 ART SCHOOL OF THE BERKSHIRES TO OFFER PAINTING CLASS EXPLORING USE OF COLOR

For Immediate Release
January 8, 2016

Williamstown, Massachusetts—Instructor Michael Cohen of IS183 Art School of the Berkshires leads “Communicate with Color,” a five-session painting class on Wednesdays from 1–4 pm, January 27 to February 24, at the Clark Art Institute. Classes will be held in Hunter Studio at the Lunder Center at Stone Hill on the Clark’s campus. Tuition is $210 ($180 for Clark and IS183 members). For more information and to register, visit IS183.org or call 413 298 5252 x100.

Using the collection of the Clark as a starting point, students observe how color can alter perception of depth, affect mood, and even change the meaning of a work of art. Color exploration is employed to teach basic color theory in visual exercises and to learn about how mixing and layering influences the effect of paint. Looking at hues, shading, and tints, students learn to manipulate color in simple compositions. Gouache will be the medium of choice as it is easy to use, offers vibrant colors, and produces immediate results. Painters of all skill levels are welcome.
