FOUR NATIONS ENSEMBLE RETURNS TO CLARK ART INSTITUTE
FOR AN EVENING OF BAROQUE MUSIC

Williamstown, Massachusetts—The Four Nations Ensemble performs “The Nude: Sacred and Erotic,” the second in a series of three evenings of Baroque music at the Clark Art Institute, on Saturday, June 18 at 7:30 pm in the Clark Center. In celebration of paintings in the Clark’s summer exhibition, Splendor, Myth, and Vision: Nudes from the Prado, Four Nations musicians and accompanying singers explore the emotional and spiritual landscape of the nude. Preceding the concert from 6:30–7:30 pm, ticketholders enjoy private access to Splendor, Myth, and Vision. Tapas and drinks are available for purchase on the Fernández Terrace beginning at 6 pm.

Splendor, Myth, and Vision features twenty-eight paintings from the Museo Nacional del Prado, twenty-four of which are presented in the United States for the first time. Drawing inspiration from paintings by Titian, Francisco de Zurbarán, and Guercino, the Four Nations musicians perform works by Claudio Monteverdi, Barbara Strozzi, Henry Purcell, Johann Sebastian Bach, and Jean-Philippe Rameau.

Four Nations concerts and programs are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.

ABOUT THE FOUR NATIONS ENSEMBLE

Founded in 1986, The Four Nations Ensemble brings together soloists who are leading exponents of period instrument and vocal performance to present music from the Renaissance through the Viennese Classical masterpieces of Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven. With a core ensemble of harpsichord, violin, flute, and cello, the Ensemble explores and performs masterpieces of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, from trio sonata to piano trio and quartet.

Four Nations has performed at major houses and on prestigious series throughout the United States including The Kennedy Center and Lincoln Center. The Ensemble has participated in festivals including The Boston Early Music Festival, New York’s Mostly Mozart, Amherst Festival, New Haven’s International Festival of Arts & Ideas, Maverick Concerts in New York, Virginia Waterfront International Arts Festival, Chautauqua, The Indiana Early Music Festival, The Redwoods Festival in Santa Rosa, California, and Brasilseguridade in Rio de Janeiro.

ABOUT THE CLARK

The Clark Art Institute, located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts.
