Talks, book signings, reception planned

Williamstown, MA—Book your Columbus Day weekend now and join New York Times bestselling author Jodi Picoult for a special event at the Clark Art Institute on Saturday, October 8 to mark the debut of her highly anticipated new novel, Small Great Things. Picoult discusses her most personal novel to date in author talks at 1 pm and 4 pm; book signings are scheduled at 2 pm and during a cocktail reception at 5 pm.

Small Great Things tells the story of Ruth Jefferson, a labor and delivery nurse at a Connecticut hospital with more than twenty years’ experience. During her shift, Ruth begins a routine checkup on a newborn, only to be told a few minutes later that she’s been reassigned to another patient. The parents are white supremacists and don’t want Ruth, who is African American, to touch their child. The hospital complies with their request, but the next day, the baby goes into cardiac distress while Ruth is alone in the nursery. Does she obey orders or does she intervene?

Jodi Picoult is the author of twenty-six novels including Songs of the Humpback Whale (1992), My Sister's Keeper (2004), Nineteen Minutes (2007), Sing You Home (2011), Lone Wolf (2012), The Storyteller (2012), Leaving Time (2014), and two young adult novels: Between the Lines (2012) and Off the Page (2014), co-written with her daughter Samantha van Leer. Her last eight novels have debuted at number one on the New York Times bestseller list. Small Great Things will be published as a Ballantine hardcover on October 11, 2016. Picoult lives in New Hampshire with her husband. They have three children.

ABOUT THE CLARK
The Clark Art Institute, located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts.
