HIKE AT CLARK ART INSTITUTE EXPLORES LANDSCAPE HISTORIES

Williamstown, MA—The Clark Art Institute hosts “Landscape Histories of Stone Hill,” a special hike held in conjunction with the summer exhibition Sensing Place: Reflecting on Stone Hill on Saturday, August 27 at 10:30 am.
When Williamstown was settled in the mid-1700s as an outpost of Fort Massachusetts, Stone Hill was essentially the center of town. The original subdivision of the town delineated Stone Hill as a place for residences, farms, and woodlots, leaving a legacy reflected in the stone walls, fence lines, and hedgerows still visible today. This moderate hike, led by exhibition co-curator and Williams College Biology and Environmental Studies Professor Hank Art, explores Stone Hill and the impacts of human land uses over the past 250 years.

Meet at the entrance of the Lunder Center at Stone Hill at 10:30 am. Hikers should wear shoes appropriate for hiking on trails, which cover varied terrain. Free with paid admission.

ABOUT THE CLARK
The Clark Art Institute, located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts.
