SENSORY MOON WALK PLANNED AT CLARK ART INSTITUTE

Williamstown, MA—Join naturalist Leslie Reed-Evans, executive director of the Williamstown Rural Lands Foundation, for an exploration of Stone Hill at the Clark Art Institute by the light of the full moon on Thursday, August 18 at 8 pm. The leisurely, two-hour sensory walk invites visitors to explore with heightened senses and learn why Stone Hill is such a special place, discovering how it looks, tastes, feels, sounds, and smells on a summer night under what is known as the Sturgeon Moon. See your moon shadow, taste wild edibles, feel the texture of tree and stone, listen to night-singing insects and perhaps an owl, and smell scents of the woodlands and meadow.

Some Native Americans call the August full moon the Sturgeon Moon because sturgeon, a large fish native to the Great Lakes and other major bodies of water, are most readily caught during this month. It is also sometimes called the Red Moon because, as the moon rises, it appears reddish through the summer’s hazy atmosphere.

Visitors should meet in the parking lot at the Lunder Center at Stone Hill by 7:45 pm. This event is free; space is limited and registration is required. Call 413 458 2303 to reserve. Extreme weather cancels this event.

ABOUT THE CLARK
The Clark Art Institute, located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts.
