CLARK ART INSTITUTE ANNOUNCES LINEUP FOR FREE SUMMER CONCERTS
Williamstown, MA—The Clark Art Institute continues its tradition of free, family-friendly summer concerts this July with four bands performing on Tuesday nights. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic meals. Barbecue fare and beverages will also be available for sale.
All concerts begin at 6 pm.
Tuesday, July 5: Annie and the Hedonists
Annie and the Hedonists interprets the songs of the great female blues artists of the '20s, '30s, and '40s: Bessie Smith, Sippie Wallace, Memphis Minnie, Billie Holiday, Rosetta Tharpe, Blue Lu Barker, Ella Fitzgerald, and others. Other styles include western swing, bluesy country, and roots Americana. Band members include Annie Rosen on lead vocals, Jonny Rosen on guitar and vocals, Peter Davis on clarinet, tenor guitar, piano, and vocals, and Don Young on upright bass and vocals.
Tuesday, July 12: Across the Pond
Relive the magical music of the British Invasion with Across the Pond, a popular Beatles tribute band that strives to capture the exuberance of a live Beatles show. Focusing on the style and music of the Beatles rather than impersonating the Beatles themselves, Across the Pond performs familiar hits—plus later songs the Beatles recorded but never performed in concert.
Tuesday, July 19: HBH&T Band with Wanda Houston
HBH&T Band, featuring vocalist Wanda Houston, is a jazz quartet performing standards, blues, R&B, and Top 40—the music you know, the music you love, and the music you can sing along with and dance to. Led by the soulful stylings of vocalist Wanda Houston, with horns Charlie Tokarz, bass/keys Scott Heth, and drums Jay Bradley, the band’s credo is “Forget your troubles and come on, get happy!”
Tuesday, July 26: Bernice Lewis
Local singer-songwriter Bernice Lewis presents an evening of lively folk music for all ages. With almost four decades of performing festivals, concert halls, coffeehouses, colleges, and house concerts, along with a half dozen acclaimed CDs, Lewis has built a solid national fan base. She has been a featured performer on NPR’s Mountain Stage program, as well as at the Kennedy Center. Her ballad, “Bridges That Hold,” was included in Peter, Paul and Mary’s Lifelines video (PBS).
