‘UNVEILING THE NUDE’ LECTURE AT CLARK ART INSTITUTE
USHERS IN SUMMER EXHIBITION
Free lecture celebrates opening of Splendor, Myth, and Vision: Nudes from the Prado

Williamstown, Massachusetts—Miguel Falomir, deputy director of the Museo Nacional del Prado, Thomas Loughman, director and CEO of the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art (formerly associate director at the Clark), and Lara Yeager-Crasselt, interim curator of paintings and sculpture at the Clark, present “Unveiling the Nude: The Story of Splendor, Myth, and Vision” on Saturday, June 11 at 3 pm. The free lecture, which takes place on opening day of the exhibition, will be held in the Michael Conforti Pavilion.

The three participants reveal the story of how Splendor, Myth, and Vision: Nudes from the Prado came to be; the history of royal collecting in Spain and in the foundation of the Prado; and the fascinating and complex culture of collecting and displaying the nude.

Splendor, Myth, and Vision, exclusively at the Clark, features twenty-eight Old Master paintings of the nude, twenty-four of which have never been on view in the United States. The exhibition examines the collecting of sixteenth- and seventeenth-century paintings of the nude at the Spanish court, explores the histories of these works and their display in the Spanish Royal Collections, and reconsiders the significant role of the nude in European art. The exhibition is on view June 11–October 10, 2016.

ABOUT THE CLARK
