BERKSHIRE LANTERN WALK CELEBRATES SUMMER AT CLARK ART INSTITUTE

Williamstown, MA—Take a stroll into the summer night during the annual Berkshire Lantern Walk at the Clark Art Institute on Thursday, July 6 at 8 pm. Meet at the Lunder Center at Stone Hill, create or pick up a lantern, and join in a walk (beginning at approximately 9 pm) on the Clark’s Pasture Trail to the contemporary installation Thomas Schütte: Crystal. The event is free and open to the public; all ages are welcome.

Along the path, members of the New England Puppet Intensive present a hillside performance with abstract, illuminated objects inspired by the contemporary exhibition As in Nature: Helen Frankenthaler Paintings (opening July 1)—a visual spectacle reflecting the sense of color, landscape, and beauty of Frankenthaler’s work. Local musicians Amrita Lash and Karl Mullen provide an improvised score for the performance.

In preparation for the walk, a free lantern-building workshop will be held on Wednesday, July 5 from 1–4 pm. Participants should meet at the Visitors Picnic Tent, located near the west entrance of the Manton Research Center. Reed and bamboo materials will be provided. Bring your own mason jar and transform it into an illuminated sculpture.

This program, a collaboration between the Clark Art Institute and the New England Puppet Intensive, is supported in part by a grant from the Cultural Council of Northern Berkshire.

ABOUT THE CLARK
The Clark Art Institute, located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts.
