Weekend talk goes behind the scenes of ‘Clark Buzz’

Williamstown, Massachusetts—Horticulturist and Grounds Manager Matthew Noyes joins beekeeper David Thayer to discuss “Clark Buzz,” the Clark Art Institute’s beekeeping program, on Saturday, July 8 at 11 am. Noyes and Thayer will lead participants on a landscape tour, highlighting elements of the beekeeping program. Visitors should meet at the Orientation Center located outside the entrance to the Clark Center. The event is free, but space is limited and registration is required. Thayer has assisted the Clark in establishing a bee program and will supervise the growth of the colony. Bee skeps have been installed on the roof of the Manton Research Center, and the Clark plans to maintain a population of at least 40,000 bees to sustain the hives and encourage honey production.

The Clark’s 140-acre campus is an ideal habitat for many kinds of animals, birds, and insects. Sustainability initiatives are central to the Clark’s grounds management practices.

The Clark Art Institute, located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts.
