CLARK ART INSTITUTE PRESENTS FINAL MET OPERA OF THE SEASON WITH ‘DER ROSENKAVALIER’

Williamstown, Massachusetts—The Met: Live in HD presents Der Rosenkavalier, the last opera of the season, at the Clark Art Institute on Saturday, May 13 at 12:30 pm. The dream cast of Renée Fleming as the Marschallin and Elīna Garanča as Octavian star in Richard Strauss’s grandest opera. In his new production, Robert Carsen, the director behind the Met’s recent Falstaff, places the action at the end of the Habsburg Empire. The production underscores the opera’s subtext of class and conflict against a rich backdrop of gilt and red damask in a staging that also stars Günther Groissböck as Baron Ochs. Music Director James Levine conducts the sparklingly perfect score.

Now in its eleventh season, The Met: Live in HD is the Metropolitan Opera’s Peabody and Emmy Award-winning series of live performances transmitted to more than 2,000 movie theaters in seventy countries around the world. Live telecasts feature the full performance along with backstage interviews and commentary.

The Clark Art Institute, located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts.
