JAPANESE FILM SERIES CONTINUES AT CLARK ART INSTITUTE

Williamstown, Massachusetts—The free film series “Colors of Japan: Cinematic Impressions” continues at the Clark Art Institute with a screening of Gate of Hell on Sunday, January 29 at 1:30 pm in the auditorium. Winner of Academy Awards for best foreign film and best costume design, Gate of Hell (PG-13, 1953; 1 hr 30 mins) portrays the passion of a twelfth-century imperial warrior for a married lady-in-waiting. Teinosuke Kinugasa directs.

Presented in conjunction with the special exhibition Japanese Impressions: Color Woodblock Prints from the Rodbell Family Collection, on view through April 2, the film series celebrates the colorful beauty of Japan. All films are in Japanese with English subtitles. Additional films in the series include Kwaidan (February 5) and Equinox Flower (February 26).


ABOUT THE CLARK
