VALLEY LIGHT OPERA TO PERFORM AN EVENING OF GILBERT & SULLIVAN AT CLARK ART INSTITUTE

Williamstown, Massachusetts—The Valley Light Opera of Amherst presents a Gilbert & Sullivan medley at the Clark Art Institute on Saturday, August 26 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $30 ($25 members) and may be purchased online at clarkart.edu or by calling 413 458 0524. The performance will be held in the Clark’s auditorium, located in the Manton Research Center.

The delightful music and lyrics of Gilbert & Sullivan have entertained audiences for generations. Of the fourteen comic operas created by the duo between 1871 and 1896, many are still widely performed today, including H.M.S. Pinafore, The Pirates of Penzance, and The Mikado. Singers from the Valley Light Opera perform numbers from these operas and more, providing an evening of high-energy entertainment complete with festive costumes. Audience members will be invited to sing along for some numbers.

ABOUT THE VALLEY LIGHT OPERA
The Valley Light Opera was founded in 1975 by a group of Gilbert & Sullivan devotees. With a mission of promoting broad participation while producing fine entertainment, the VLO presents a fully staged opera every fall and less formal productions in early spring. The group has produced all fourteen Gilbert & Sullivan operas as well as Cox and Box, The Zoo, The Rose of Persia, The Chieftain, The Emerald Isle, and Sullivan's oratorio The Prodigal Son. In addition, the VLO has performed Rudolf Friml’s The Vagabond King, Franz Lehár's The Merry Widow, Jacques Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld, John Philip Sousa’s El Capitan, and Warren Martin’s The True Story of Cinderella. ABOUT THE CLARK
The Clark Art Institute, located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts.
