CLARK ART INSTITUTE KICKS OFF ‘MET: LIVE IN HD’ OPERA SERIES WITH ‘NORMA’

Williamstown, Massachusetts—Opera is back at the Clark Art Institute! The twelfth season of The Metropolitan Opera’s “Live in HD” series begins with Norma, a new production of Bellini’s bel canto tragedy, on Saturday, October 7 at 12:55 pm. The story of murder, revenge, and torrid love affairs is set in Gaul in the year 50 BCE, during the Roman occupation. Sondra Radvanovsky stars in the title role as the high priestess Norma, whose rage turns to fury when the father of her children abandons her. Joyce DiDonato co-stars as Norma’s colleague and rival, Adalgisa, opposite Joseph Calleja as Pollione and Matthew Rose as Oroveso. Carlo Rizzi conducts and Sir David McVicar directs the new production. Run time is 3 hours, 4 minutes.

The Met: Live in HD is The Metropolitan Opera’s Peabody and Emmy Award-winning series of live performances transmitted to theaters in seventy countries around the world. Live telecasts feature the full performance along with backstage interviews and commentary.

The Clark Art Institute, located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts.
