Williamstown, Massachusetts—The Clark Art Institute presents The Bolshoi Ballet in HD: The Nutcracker on Saturday, December 16 at 1 pm in the auditorium, followed by a Nutcracker Sweets Tea featuring gourmet tea and elegant desserts at 3:30 pm in the Michael Conforti Pavilion. Tickets to the HD screening of The Nutcracker are $18 ($16 members; $10 children 12 and under) and tickets to the tea are $20 ($18 members; $12 children 12 and under). The Nutcracker, accompanied by the famous music of Pyotr Tchaikovsky, is based on the story written in 1816 by German author E.T.A. Hoffmann—an enchanting tale of young Marie and her Nutcracker prince. On Christmas Eve, Marie’s wooden nutcracker doll transforms into a beautiful prince who takes her on a magical journey. Before they leave, they must confront the Mouse King, whose army is threatening Marie.
Danced by the Bolshoi Ballet’s principals and staged by Russian ballet master Yuri Grigorovich, the fairy tale transports children and adults alike to a world of magic and wonder for the holiday season. The cast includes Denis Rodkin as the Nutcracker Prince, Anna Nikulina as Marie, Andrei Merkuriev as Drosselmeyer, and Vitaly Biktimirov as the Mouse King.
This is an encore performance. The Nutcracker was recorded live on December 21, 2014. Run time is 2 hours, 15 minutes.
