OPENING LECTURE FOR PICASSO EXHIBITION SLATED AT CLARK ART INSTITUTE

Williamstown, Massachusetts—“Picasso’s Creative Collaborations,” the opening lecture for the Clark Art Institute’s summer exhibition, Picasso: Encounters, will be held Sunday, June 11 at 3 pm in the auditorium. The lecture is free; admission to the galleries will be charged. Picasso: Encounters is on view June 4–August 27, 2017.

Manton Curator of Prints, Drawings, and Photographs Jay A. Clarke, curator of Picasso: Encounters, investigates how Pablo Picasso’s creative collaborations fueled and strengthened his art. While Picasso is often viewed as the ultimate artist genius working alone in his studio, he did not create in a vacuum. For example, the artist worked frequently with the printers who pulled the images off his copper plates, the foundries that cast his bronzes, the publishers who commissioned and sold his prints and bronzes, and the ceramicists who threw the pots he later completed. In addition, the many muses in his life greatly impacted his production, imagery, and artistic reputation.

Picasso: Encounters is organized by the Clark Art Institute, with the exceptional support of the Musée national Picasso-Paris. Additional support for the exhibition is provided by Margaret and Richard Kronenberg and Marilyn and Ron Walter.

ABOUT THE CLARK

The Clark Art Institute, located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts.
