CLARK ART INSTITUTE TO AIR METROPOLITAN OPERA’S ‘ADRIANA LECOUVREUR’

Williamstown, Massachusetts—The Clark Art Institute airs a live broadcast of Adriana Lecouvreur, a production of The Metropolitan Opera’s Live in HD program, on Saturday, January 12 at 12:55 pm. Adriana Lecouvreur is an opera in four acts by Francesco Cilea to an Italian libretto by Arturo Colautti, based on the 1849 play Adrienne Lecouvreur by Eugène Scribe and Ernest Legouvé. For the first time at the Met, Anna Netrebko sings the title role of Adriana, the great eighteenth-century actress in love with the military hero Maurizio, sung by Piotr Beczała.

Gianandrea Noseda conducts Cilea’s tragedy, directed by Sir David McVicar, with the action partially set in a working replica of a Baroque theater. The cast also features Anita Rachvelishvili as the Princess of Bouillon, Adriana’s rival for Maurizio’s affections; Ambrogio Maestri as Michonnet, Adriana’s faithful friend; and Carlo Bosi as the duplicitous Abbé.

Now in its thirteenth season, The Met: Live in HD is the Metropolitan Opera’s Peabody and Emmy Award-winning series of live performances transmitted to theaters in seventy countries around the world. Live telecasts feature the full performance along with backstage interviews and commentary.

The Clark Art Institute, located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts. Galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm; open daily in July and August. Admission is $20; free year-round for Clark members, children 18 and younger, and students with valid ID.
