CLARK ART INSTITUTE PRESENTS FINAL ‘FIRST SUNDAY FREE’ OF THE SEASON

Williamstown, Massachusetts—The Clark Art Institute holds its final “First Sunday Free” of the season on May 6. Admission to the galleries is free all day (10 am–5 pm), and all activities are free.

The theme of the free day is “Clark Buzz,” the Institute’s honeybee sustainability initiative. Free bee-themed activities will be held from 1–4 pm on the lower level of the Clark Center, including making native seed bombs or a beeswax candle and tasting the Clark's first batch of honey produced from its own bees.

At 2 pm, Clark Director Olivier Meslay joins Clark Grounds Manager Matthew Noyes, Massachusetts Chief Apiary Inspector Dr. Kim Skyrm, and local beekeeper Dave Thayer for a one-hour discussion about the Clark’s ongoing commitment to sustainability. Participants ask the questions: What role does the modern museum play in the landscape and community in which it resides? How does leadership navigate the delicate line between stewardship and evolution? These questions will be explored in terms of how they relate to the museum’s mission and fledgling honeybee project, “Clark Buzz.”

The First Sundays Free program, providing free admission on the first Sunday of each month from October through May, is supported by funding from the officers and employees of Allen & Company, Inc.

ABOUT THE CLARK

The Clark Art Institute, located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts. Opened in 1955, the Clark houses exceptional European and American paintings and sculpture, extensive collections of master prints and drawings, English silver, and early photography. The Clark is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts. Galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm. Admission is $20; free year-round for Clark members, children 18 and younger, and students with valid ID. Free admission is available through several programs, including First Sundays Free; a local library pass program; EBT Card to Culture; Bank of America Museums on Us; and Blue Star Museums.
