‘FIRST SUNDAY FREE’ AT CLARK ART INSTITUTE CELEBRATES ART AND NATURE

Williamstown, Massachusetts—The First Sundays Free program at the Clark Art Institute kicks off the season Sunday, October 7 with free admission all day and activities for all ages from 1–4 pm. The day’s programming, centered on art and nature, also celebrates the ten-year anniversary of the Lunder Center at Stone Hill, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Tadao Ando. Visitors enjoy a last chance to see the Clark’s inaugural video exhibition, Jennifer Steinkamp: Blind Eye, on view through October 8 in the Lunder Center galleries. Admission to the permanent collection is also free.

Free events include performances by local musicians, making terrariums, painting birch bark en plein air, and a series of gallery talks (1:30–3:30 pm) in the Blind Eye exhibition. Ride the shuttle up to the Lunder Center at Stone Hill or grab a trail map and take a short hike.

ABOUT THE CLARK

The Clark Art Institute, located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts. Opened in 1955, the Clark houses exceptional European and American paintings and sculpture, extensive collections of master prints and drawings, English silver, and early photography. Acting as convener through its Research and Academic Program, the Clark gathers an international community of scholars to participate in a lively program of conferences, colloquia, and workshops on topics of vital importance to the visual arts. The Clark is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts. Galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm. Admission is $20; free year-round for Clark members, children 18 and younger, and students with valid ID.
